I made some rough sketches of the final choices of clothing, accessories and props for our filming. The dark colours go well with the 'angry' 'grunge' theme were trying to portray. It also works with our genre of music. I think these clothes are different to the typical teenage music video these days. But this is suitable for us because we need to ensure that our artist is different; and stands out in the crowd. I used an application called 'Polyvore' to actually piece the outfits together with clearer, realistic images. They both work really well together, because they have very similar aspects but at the same time both give off a completely different image. Its clear that were filming in the winter because both outfits include boots/coats. however I have made a point of giving the artist statements jewelry for example a bold belt and necklace. And I have given the actor statement props like a bottle of alcohol whether it be
Vodka/Wine, and a cigarette in hand.
I got the ideas and inspirations for these outfits from various celebrities and pop stars who are current and popular in the industry right now. The outfit for the actor, which was the Gothic dark outfit was inspired by Taylor Momsen. Former 90210 star, and currently in a rock band. She is very big in the US and her wardrobe choices hit fashion sites daily. She bases her style around a grunge, scruffy look. The picture on the top left shows that Taylor is wearing the ripped 'Cat Scratch' leggings that I chose, also the leather boots and baggy t shirts. Taylor pulls off her look with loose shabby hair and dark messy eyes. in replacement for Taylor's leather jackets i have chosen a leather satchel, this is because i believe that the leather jacket is more suitable for Faith (the artist). Not only has Taylors fashion sense inspired the look for the actor, but also her attitude. Shes genuinely quite plain faced, never expression. Even in photographs she doesn't smile. her over all look gives a sense that she is quite hollow inside and empty behind the eyes. I think her attitude and mannerisms generally complete her whole 'grunge' / 'indie' look.
The second look I created, for the artist (Faith) was inspired by a number of celebrities. In particularly singers who are known for their looks as well as fashion sense. The look is very versatile. The accessories were inspired by Rihanna; who has been recently known for wearing statement necklaces with casual, and evening wear. Her necklaces are usually chains. I didn't want to copy Rihanna completely, because she is also most well known for her seductive way of dressing, revealing a lot of flesh. I just appreciate the way she accessorizes her outfits and recognize the wonders a statement piece of jewelry can do for your image and branding.
Another artist that is big in fashion right now that I got a few ideas from is Rita Ora. She promotes a lot of street wear. Leather is something she wears most popularly in most of her 'papped' pictures. She usually wears black leather with red lipstick. The contrast also introduces quite a 'rock chic' persona to her image. As you can see in the outfit I created for the artist I have included a fair share of black leather. Starting with a leather bomber jacket, to a designer leather belt, to the mid length black leather boots. not only does leather show style and inner rock chic, but it also shows a strong attitude and femininity. Leather shows women's body shapes well and also is very complimentary in every form.
WWW- I love the fact you have pieced the outfits together yourself using an App that shows that you are using a lot of different technologies.
