I looked on YouTube on various Blogs for other A2 music videos that have been created that display some of our main ideas that are going to be key features in our music video. The reason why I did some research on A2 students music videos is because I am aware that they have the same skills, equipment and time as we do to create our video. Therefore by looking at the way in which they did things and assessing what worked and what didn't work, I believe will help us in the long run to better our ideas and improve how it has been done in the past. Below are some videos I choose that were most relevant to our genre/ ideas. I have found that even small things that they include like shot lengths and backgrounds are beneficial to take notes of.
Angry music video, based around drugs alcohol. Similar to our idea, giving off the impression that the actor is based under the influence of drugs from the very beginning. Includes smoking, works effectively because stereotypically young people these days tend to smoke a lot, in particular young people that do drugs. I like the way they have used an effect on a lot of shots that fasts forwards the filming. this gets more shots in if the face us faster. The make-up and costume used is generally quite scruffy. The black mascara round the eyes is very similar to the idea we had in mind. However I think this video lacks varied settings therefore doesn't look as well as it could. I like how they have used chewing gum in replacement for an addictive drug. We have chosen to use 'skittles' in replacements for drug in our video. Their choice of costume is casual and quite student like. It looks as if its winter so thick knits and coats are worn a lot too. This is similar to the costumes that our actor will be wearing.

Different genre and story line to us. But have the actor and the artist both equally presented. Works well flicking to and from. Begun by filming actor at school with boyfriend, and artist in a dark from with a plain back ground. This gives a clear indication of who is who and their individual roles in this video.
I like the camera work with the Iphones, the text on them is clear and the props are modern and up to date. Their choice of wardrobe doesn't look like it has been over thought about too much, imparticular the artists. She doesn't resemble a fashion icon or represent any styles. She is quite plain and has dark clothes on. Also the actors choice of clothing doesn't give away her personality or character, its very neutral. I think they should have given her a prop, accessory, or different choice of costume to make her a bit more interesting and introduce her more to to audience.

The beach shots work really well. Especially in the cold windy winter weather. Empty beaches are most effective. The fact that is doesn't look clean or summary is effective, because they didn't want to give off the impression that it was like a 'Mediterranean' themed summary happy music video. Instead they portray the distress of the artist and the narrative of the lyrics with a variety of mid and long shots getting in the background showing the dark and gloominess. The flick between close up shots of lip syncing and long shots of her on the beach with the silver balloons works really well, because it shows good repetition and keeps the audience interested with the short shots and quick cuts. The white dress really stands out amongst this setting, it looks pure and innocent. Singing about love, this goes really well with the genre. The majority of this video is filmed on the beach, there aren't much editing effects included, there are a couple of dissolves, slow motion shots and over laps, however it doesn't look too over edited, instead it generally looks quite informal and spontaneous. There are only 3 different settings, so it doesn't get confusing. Also there are only 2 actors so it makes it clear to see who she is singing about.
