Feedback From Practice Filming

We filmed a mixture of boys and girls that range between the ages of 16 to around 18/19. We thought that by doing this we would get a wider range of feedback. Although we know that girls will probably be our ideal target market, we still wanted to know what boys thought of what we had done so far. We showed them each our practice video individually. We made a point of doing this individually because we wanted their initial primary thoughts. This is because when we did our target audience video in a focus group, we found that everybody was bouncing off of each others opinions, and what each of them wanted to say was affected by the people around them. the feedback we received was good and detailed. The good feedback we got helped us a lot, because somethings we were unsure about for example the first shots were complimented a lot therefore gave us the confidence to know what we are doing works right. A lot of people said that the fast pace, fashion and beat of the music worked really well, the opening shot which was the pan shot we used a skate board for and also the Extreme close up shot of the lip syncing was really liked by all of the students. Some people said that the flashing text we used for the 'Can You Feel' part of the lyrics brought up the pace effectively. And lastly we had a lot of comments on the costume and makeup, they thought that the darkness and scruffiness suited the genre. The good feedback we were really pleased with, because everything we did for effect was noticed, this shows that our hard work on small details is beginning to pay off.
However as well as a lot of good feedback, we did also receive some negative critic. For example a few people said that the actress needs to do a lot more acting, maybe we will get a few shots of her showing emotion for example of her crying rather than looking sad. Another thing that many of our peers picked up on was that in the opening pan shot, the camera was quite 'shakey'. This was because there was sheets and wires on the floor, and the floor was uneven. So when we come to filming the real thing were going to have to consider maybe putting a plank of wood onto the floor so that the camera is still. Although the flashing texts got a lot of good feedback due to the effect it portrays, we still got some people saying that there was too much of it and instead of having so much concept, we should put in a bit more acting and lip syncing. We do agree with this so when it comes to editing the final video we will ensure to take this into consideration so that the concept isn't so long and boring. Another common comment we got referred to the lack of settings we have used, but as it was only a practice video we didn't put in too much detail. This is because we just wanted to focus on getting the main shots right as they are vital. We do plan to use a lot more settings naming a few; forestry, Brick Lane, London, South end beach. Although it isn't great to hear critic on your work, its very helpful and inspiring because it gives you the opportunity to improve to the greatest of your ability in order to create a high grade piece of work.
